Motorcycle registration cost in Bangladesh: every BRTA fee, from the gazette

The showroom price is only part of what a motorcycle costs to put on the road in Bangladesh. BRTA charges a set of fees at registration, and the total depends on two things: whether the engine is above 100 cc (or an electric motor above 5 kW), and whether you pay road tax for the first two years or for all ten. This guide lists every charge from the government's own published instruments — the figures behind the on-road price calculator on every Bikevai bike page — and says plainly what those instruments do not cover.

A worked example: a 150 cc bike with a Tk 2,00,000 showroom price comes to about Tk 2,08,840 on the road with two-year registration, or Tk 2,18,040 with the full ten years of road tax paid up front. A 100 cc commuter at Tk 1,00,000 comes to Tk 1,06,690 or Tk 1,11,290. The road-tax notification words its slabs as "up to 100 cc and up to 90 kg" and "above 100 cc and above 90 kg", so a light bike close to the line is worth checking with BRTA before you budget.
Two-year or ten-year?
Road tax is due every two years for the first ten years of a bike's life — the 2016 notification set it as five equal instalments so that the amount payable at registration fell from Tk 5,750 to Tk 1,150 for a 100 cc bike and from Tk 11,500 to Tk 2,300 for anything larger. What showrooms call "10-year registration" is the five instalments paid together. The total is the same either way; paying it all at once only saves the four later visits.
No advance income tax on a motorcycle
The advance income tax that car buyers pay at registration does not apply to motorcycles. The National Board of Revenue's circular of 8 July 2024 on tax collection at vehicle registration lists the vehicles covered by section 153 of the Income Tax Act 2023 and excludes motorcycles by name; the same circular excludes them from the environmental surcharge. If a showroom quotes "AIT" on a motorcycle, ask what instrument it is under.
What the schedule does not settle
- VAT and bank charges. None of the instruments above states how VAT applies to these fees. BRTA's e-assessment slip — generated on the BRTA Service Portal, bsp.brta.gov.bd, which is open from 8 am to 10 pm — is the only place that shows the amount actually collected. Treat the totals above as the schedule, and the slip as the bill.
- Showroom paperwork fees. A dealer that handles the registration for you may charge a service fee of its own. That is a private fee, not a BRTA one.
- Insurance. Not part of registration and not in these figures.
- Fitness. The Tk 800 annual fitness fee in the 2022 schedule is a renewal charge for later years, not a registration charge.

The 2022 gazette is BRTA's own "বিভিন্ন ফি" document; the 2016 road-tax notification is filed under BRTA's legislative information as "মোটরসাইকেল রেজিস্ট্রেশনে বিদ্যমান কর ও ফি'সমূহের পুনঃনির্ধারণ সংক্রান্ত প্রজ্ঞাপন"; the 2012 memo is BRTA's "ডিএনপি ও ডিআরসি ফি" document; and the NBR circular is on BRTA's advance-income-tax page. All four are linked from brta.gov.bd and were read on 20 September 2026. When BRTA revises a fee, the calculator on every Bikevai page changes with it — and this article will be updated the same day.
